The mission of the Saltwater-fisheries Enhancement Association (SEA) is to promote the preservation, conservation, and enhancement of saltwater inshore and offshore coastal resources for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
The San Antonio chapter of SEA was formed in August of 2001. This chapter was born of a belief that it is important to focus time, money and resources on the areas where we actually fish.
During our first year, our Casino Night fundraiser was so successful we were able to purchase and donate a fingerling transport trailer to the Texas Parks & Wildlife hatchery in Flour Bluff. This "giant aquarium on wheels" is used to transport the fingerling raised at the hatchery to their ultimate destination in the bays along the coastal bend of Texas.
The San Antonio Chapter of SEA is also responsible for improvements to many local harbors, including the addition of fishing cleaning stations in places like Conn Brown Harbor and others.
In addition to fundraising and special projects, we share our love of fishing with some great kids through programs like our KidsFish, held at the Corpus Christi Marine Development Center. The event begins with an educational tour of the facility where the kids learn about the history and work of the center, as well as the importance of our coastal systems and resources. From there, they are taken for a great time of catch-and-release fishing in the stocked tanks where they catch trout, redfish, flounder, drum, and even hardhead. The day wraps up with a hamburger and hot dog lunch. To date we have shared this experience with kids from Hawthorne Elementary, San Antonio Youth Center, Mission Road Ministries, and Presbyterian Children's Home.
SEA also holds two membership fishing tournaments each year where the emphasis is on recruiting new members, having fun, and catching a few fish. The event is concluded with an official weigh-in and a great tournament dinner, followed by presentation of awards.
